Staff Scores

Planning and Direction: 7

Really good choice of location for the first mission, and deciding to go straight for a cold weather training camp-lite from the beginning (Ho Jin PD promised the real one would come later) was a good choice. Furthermore, the dinner game was very clever, as each section of the game was connected, creating a nice Sisyphean feel. Part of the sleeping game was edited out entirely, with a note that it was too boring, which is a good sign as it means both that the show is creating plenty of usable footage, and that the PDs are willing to cut boring segments.

Postproduction: 6

Typical 1N2D production, with average visuals and good music and sound.

Cast Scores:

Cha Tae Hyun: 6

Even though he slowed down a bit compared to the morning, Tae Hyun was still solid this episode, particularly with his reactions to the games and the new members.

Kim Jong Min: 6

Jong Min was pretty good as well, his moments of overreaching were kept to a minimum and he was vocal and eagerly involved in most of the segments.

Kim Joo Hyuk: 6

Joo Hyuk seemed to settle in very well since the morning episode, and did well as the reluctant curmudgeon who couldn’t catch a break (until the end, when he won the attention of many an ajumma).

The breathtaking finale of Joon Young's not-fish-sauce celebration.

The breathtaking finale of Joon Young’s not-fish-sauce celebration.

Kim Jun Ho: 5

Jun Ho was OK, but just OK as he stood out the least of all the members. As he said himself during the episode “I did everything Joo Hyuk did, except be funny” which sums it up quite well.

Defconn: 6

Was solid again, although still a bit more reserved than expected from him. Still, Defconn remained active and involved, and continued stepping in from time to time to contextualize situations as an MC would normally do.

Jung Joon Young: 6

Greatly improved performance from the previous episode, as Joon Young begins to emerge as a sort of babo/weirdo character. Had some of the eps better moments, like the goofy ‘went on too long’ victory dance in Jun Ho’s face,  dismissing Suzy as one of the writers, and his many mental mix-ups that baffled the members.

Guests

Bae Suzy, International Referee Kwon Ki Jong

Suzy’s role was minor, and very brief, which is a bit unfortunate as Suzy has been showing some variety potential over the past few months. The international referee was great as always.

Episode MVP: Kim Joo Hyuk

Jong Min seems pleased.

Jong Min’s silent scream.

Final Score: 6

Solid effort from all involved in making this episode. While none of the members really stood out on their own, as a group they were all engaged and involved in their own ways. This team effort combined with the good direction from the staff to make this competitive for best variety show of the week honors.

  1. Do you have any idea about the title of the song played while Suzy was walking towards the tent?
I wrote down the lyrics and tried to search for it but to no avail.
    Thanks.
