Running Man ep 199 – Dream Cup Boot Camp Race
The members play some football related games with football related guests.
Planning and Direction: 5
Not much to comment on here, as the games were about as straightforward as possible, with none being particularly good or bad conceptually. Just average Running Man style games.
Not so hot this week, as there was little need for graphics and the music was generally boring OST and BGM music, with some of the songs being repeated several times.
Ortega & Bonanza – Song for Park (PSV Eindhoven fan theme)
Vangelis – 2002 World Cup Anthem
Ricky Martin – The Cup of Life (1998 WC Anthem)
Hard Rock Sofa – Here We Go
Baek Ji Young – Still In Love
Jean Roch – Can You Feel It?
Bill Conti – Going the Distance (Rocky OST)
Bullet For My Valentine – Riot
El Pasador – Amada Mia, Amore Mio
Queen – We Are the Champions
Yoo Jae Suk: 5
Just average work from Jae Suk, who did well MCing with the guests but didn’t have many memorable individual moments.
Kim Jong Kook: 5
Jong Kook was fine, working hard during the final game and staying involved with the segments throughout the episode.
Ha Ha: 4
HaHa didn’t have much to do, being largely edited out of the main game and not appearing much in the relay game due to his role as the final member in the chain.
Ji Suk Jin: 5
A few typical weak hyung moments and some decent interactions with the guests, but that was about it..
Lee Kwang Soo: 5
Teamed up with Jae Suk during the relay to provide some water-based body gags, and did well during the penalty shooting segment. Had a few good interactions with Park Ji Sung, and was also visible in the main game as goalkeeper, but didn’t do anything super noteworthy. Still, a pretty good episode for Kwang Soo.
Gary had a few pretty good jokes in the opening mission, showing up in an orange utility jumpsuit and making the obvious Mong Ji joke during the “M-J” item search. Was energetic during the penalty and final games as well.
Song Ji Hyo: 4
Ji Hyo was decent enough for most of the episode, but got mostly left out of the final game.
Park Ji Sung, Cha Bum Geun, Seol Ki Hyun, Baek Ji Young, BEAST’s Ki Kwang, Do Joon and Yo Sub, 2AM Chang Min, ZE:A Dong Joon, BtoB Min Hyuk, B1A4 Baro, VIXX Leo
The episode was mostly about Park Ji Sung, who has put in some very good guest appearances in the past. Unfortunately, this week’s episode may have been a little -too much- about Ji Sung, as he is usually most funny when reacting to the antics of others as opposed to leading the way himself. He wasn’t bad or anything, but didn’t really do a lot despite having tons of airtime devoted to him. Cha Bum Geun seems like a very nice man. The B and C list idols were just there as a prop, serving as the opposing team.
Episode MVP: Lee Kwang Soo
None of the members really stood out this week, but Kwang Soo was likely the most consistent across all of the episode’s segments – annoying Ji Sung in the opening game, working water gags in the second game, scoring the winning penalty in the third game, and playing as the keeper in the final game.
Final Score: 5
This was about as average as Running Man episodes get, being neither notably good or bad. The games were a bit so-so, but moved along quickly enough, and the members were mostly active without doing a lot to stand out. Similarly, the main guest was OK but didn’t really contribute anything that will go down in Running Man history, to say the least.
