Infinite Challenge 368 – Detective Academy
After completing last week’s punishments for losing a yut, the IC members receive a crash course on criminal investigation.
Planning and Direction: 6
Although this was a transitional episode (finishing off last week and starting the detective series), it was reasonably well put together. While the laundry segment was a bit dull and likely could have been clipped a bit, the following segments were structured so that they did not become boring despite it being almost entirely talking and listening, which is impressive. Good use of the ‘re-enactment’ footage as well.
Pretty good captions and onscreen graphics this week. Music was mostly generic TV BGMs but usually well placed.
Rain – “La Song”
Yoo Jae Suk : 6
Solid work from Jae Suk. As this episode was mostly talking, his MC work was important in maintaining a good flow. He had a few moments of comedy as well, but was mostly directing traffic.
Park Myung Soo: 7
Myung Soo had the best performance this week, as he was among the funniest members across all of the segment. He saved the so-so punishment segment from being boring with his dirty antics, and also was strong in the detective segments, especially during his ‘re-enactment’ filmed scene.
Jung Jun Ha: 5
Jun Ha took a looooong time to get going, but did just enough in the final segments.
Jung Hyung Don: 5
Hyung Don was solid as usual, and brought good energy to the training and closing segments. He also helped Jae Suk keep the show on track by focusing more seriously on the tasks than the others.
Ha Ha: 4
HaHa was mediocre at best this episode, as he didn’t have much to say most of the time he was onscreen. Also had a comedy fail when he suddenly accused Jun Ha, senselessly trying to be funny. Seemed a bit bored with the concept compared to the others.
No Hong Chul: 4
Very rare low-energy performance from Hong Chul, who let the others do most of the work this week.
Gil was surprisingly talkative in several of the segments. He didn’t contribute much comedy himself, but did enough in terms of setting up others for jokes.
Jo Se Ho, Defconn, Hong Jin Young, Pyo Chang Won
Se Ho and Defconn were OK, but had a boring segment to work with and ended up just being warm bodies while Jae Suk and Myung Soo did most of the entertaining. Trot “idol” Hong Jin Young was unexpectedly fun in her short appearance as Myung Soo’s dead girlfriend. The instructor was also quite enjoyable in his role, and helped bring good energy to the segment.
Episode MVP: Park Myung Soo
Another heavily talk-based episode favorable to Myung Soo’s style, and he indeed led the way in providing the most entertainment by way of jokes and character humor across the majority of the segments.
Final Score: 5
This was a transitional episode, used primarily as set-up for an upcoming detective series. The detective training segments were light yet interesting, and served their purpose of creating interest for the following episodes. The laundry segment was a bit long, however, and the cast performances were a bit inconsistent, or subdued. Still a solid episode that served its purpose well.
