1 Night 2 Days S3 ep. 9 – Uljin, Gyeongbuk Men’s Trip
The members travel to the area around Uljin, attempting to win games in order to avoid an early morning visit to a commercial fishing boat.
Planning and Direction: 5
For the most part, the games were fine, although they were quite simplistic. The main mission of avoiding the fishing boat was a bit of a snooze as far as concepts go, but overall there was nothing especially good or bad about this week’s planning.
Very generic, but adequate work from the sound and graphic teams. Not as much music as usual, but the Honey Family track at the end was a nice touch.
Music Featured: Dropkick Murphys “I’m Shipping Up to Boston”, Honey Family “A Man’s Story”
Cha Tae Hyun: 5
A typical performance from Tae Hyun, he was again the most lively member despite not standing out much.
Kim Jong Min: 4
Was guilty of overreaching a bit this week, as he had a few moments where he tried too hard and fell flat as a result.
Kim Joo Hyuk: 5
Was decent again in his pseudo-straight man role, but seemed a bit more tentative than he has in recent weeks.
Kim Jun Ho: 6
Another good performance from Jun Ho, who led the way in terms of laughs once again. He’s really gotten his variety persona going after a bit of a slow start on the show. Was particularly good during the opening segment, but his presence diminished a bit as the show went on.
Defconn had a solid outing, doing well across most of the segments, although he focused a bit more on completing the tasks as opposed to being entertaining. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, however, as it is usually good to have at least one member who sticks to the plot.
Jung Joon Young: 6
Joon Young had one of his better showings so far, as he was one of the most entertaining members in the first group of segments, His natural variety sense seems to be quite good, as he regularly shows good timing with his comments and ad-libs. He’s still a bit inconsistent from episode to episode, but was a key member in this week’s show.
Some locals from the fishing docks, including one huge guy who put on a great performance while arm wrestling Jong Min.
Episode MVP: Jung Joon Young
During the opening face-writing segment, it seemed as if Jun Ho was going to steamroll his way to another MVP, but Joon Young was also good and ended up delivering more in the pond and word game segments.
Final Score: 5
Very average episode, the games were a bit bland but nothing dragged on too long and the segments turned out OK. Nobody among the cast really stood out to any significant degree, but the citizen guests were relatively good and there was minimal use of filler shots, so there wasn’t much to complain about either.
