1 Night 2 Days S3 ep. 8 – North Gyeonggi-do Trip Part 2
The members compete in the dinner, sleeping, and morning bokbulboks.
Planning and Direction: 6
The second halfs of 1N2D episodes really boil down to the games, and this episode was pretty solid in that regard. The dinner and sleeping bokbulboks were all very simple and fun games, well designed to make it easy for the cast to be funny. The morning games were not as good, however. The exercise game with Rain was pretty awful, being pointless and going on for way too long. They also did another “SuperTV” game with a local farmer lady, which was totally chaotic but entertaining for what it was. Ho Jin PD also cut the traditional 1N2D ending filler completely out, which is a very good decision as always.
Very nice use of sound effects, and clever music choices. Graphics and captions were also solid.
Music featured: Metallica “Enter Sandman”, Village People “Macho Man”, Glen Check “60’s Cardin”, Peppertones “For All Dancers”, Dick Dale “Miserlou”, Tom Jones “Keep on Running”, Rain “La Song” Bill Conte “Going the Distance (Rocky)”,
Cha Tae Hyun: 5
Tae Hyun was energetic as always but a bit less active than usual.
Kim Jong Min: 5
Had a handful of good moments during the sleeping bokbulboks, but was otherwise average.
Kim Joo Hyuk: 6
Joo Hyuk was good this week, his ‘variety sense’ is improving very, very quickly. He was sharp and didn’t miss many of the opportunities to be funny that came his way.
Kim Jun Ho: 7
Jun Ho was very good this week, leading the way in gags and reactions across nearly all of the segments, and really stealing the show at the end during the SuperTV game.
Defconn did a good job as the default MC of the group, but was a bit short on laughs this week.
Jung Joon Young: 5
Joon Young was perfectly average this week, doing enough to be useful but not standing out at any point.
Rain, a local sheep farmer ajumma
Rain did well in his guest role considering he was given a pretty boring game to MC. He didn’t set the world on fire with this appearance, but he was talkative and seemed eager to participate.
The ajumma was mainly a prop for the SuperTV game, but was actually quite well spoken and insightful when analyzing the members.
Episode MVP: Kim Jun Ho
This week was close between Joo Hyuk and Jun Ho, but Jun Ho gets the edge because he was able to create more moments from nothing. While Joo Hyuk did well in reacting to situations, he still relies more on others to set his jokes up for him.
Final Score: 6
The night games were all very tight and entertaining, while the morning ones were loose and a bit tedious during the overly long exercise segment.. Overall, the show was well done, being a solid example of a good but not great 1N2D episode. One thing that is becoming noteworthy, however, is the consistency of the cast. While none of the members have yet shown any real brilliance, there have been no real weak links either.
