1 Night 2 Days S3 ep. 5 – The Canceled Trip
The previous trip is wrapped up, the members attend the KBS awards, and the next trip begins – but plans have to be changed at the last moment due to weather.
Planning and Direction: 6
A difficult one to comment on, as the plans were ruined by weather. However, they recovered well enough to shoot a decent episode despite the adversity. Also, the PDs once again showed a willingness to completely cut boring segments, which is an improvement over season two where boring segments were often allowed to drag on until the bitter end.
Good work editing together a relatively solid episode from what they had to work with, and some of the graphics and captions were more engaging than usual.
Cha Tae Hyun: 6
Another solid episode for Tae Hyun, his energy and reactions were consistently good throughout the episode.
Kim Jong Min: 5
Not a bad shoot for Jong Min, but he didn’t really contribute a lot until the last few games at the very end.
Kim Joo Hyuk: 6
While he’s still obviously green in terms of variety and might be trying a bit too hard at times, trying hard is likely the fastest way to learn what works and what doesn’t, so he shouldn’t be faulted for that at this point. Joo Hyuk was the most visible member for most of the episode, fumbling in front of Hyuna, allowing himself to be pranked repeatedly, and even doing some decent body gags in the snow near the end. He worked hard.
Kim Jun Ho: 5
Jun Ho has been somewhat interesting on 1n2d so far…he hasn’t really done much to stand out yet, but he’s also been quite consistently decent in his performances. His ‘character’ for the show hasn’t really developed yet, but he’s almost always at least ‘ok’ and this episode was no exception.
Good work from Defconn, who seemed to step up a bit in terms of leading the cast through the adversity, as he did most of the planning for the “Plan B” after the main trip was canceled. He also contributed solidly in terms of entertainment, but didn’t really have any standout moments.
Jung Joon Young: 6
Was probably the funniest member on the morning after the previous shoot, and also while wandering the ferry terminal asking nonsensical questions of the staff. He wasn’t as prevalent during the main trip itself, but did enough to stay in the picture for most of the episode.
Was perfectly fine in the limited role given to her, didn’t do anything special but wasn’t annoying or anything.
Episode MVP: Kim Joo Hyuk
Final Score: 4
While the score may seem low, pulling off a decent episode at all after having to make up everything on the spot is actually quite impressive. The episode was actually pretty good for the first half with the morning after and ferry terminal segments, but the rest was essentially an hour filled with little more than driving around, and falling in the snow a lot.
